Does it work? Theoretically, Yes. Is it a replacement for the real one I mistakenly loaned to someone? No. Is it accurate? Questionable. This is pretty much the level of quality & workmanship we have all come to expect in the world we live in today but for those of us who remember what real tools were like, it’s a serious let-down. First, the bulb leaks on the tube unless you have it in exactly the right position, (where it won’t stay), so when you take the reading you need to be quick. Next, the bulb volume is too small & the rubber is too weak, so you will need at least 2 ‘pumps’ to get sufficient electrolyte to take a reading. Fortunately, because the bulb leaks on the tube you can ‘quick pump’ it & enough air leaks out that you don’t lose all the fluid from the first pump. Consistency of measurements has been marginal although given the way a hydrometer works that issue is hard to explain. Overall, I got tricked by the 5-star rating & didn’t pay enough attention to the actual reviews which are likely suspect. Should I have bought the OTC product? Probably, but that’s how it goes. Would I buy it again? Nope.
